Teaching at Maple Bear

At Maple Bear, students become truly bilingual, capable of navigating comfortably and naturally in environments where both English and Portuguese are used. In the first years of Early Childhood Education, students experience total immersion in the English language. From the Senior Kindergarten, which is the last year of Early Childhood Education, they start receiving some stimuli in Portuguese, and learn literacy in both languages ??simultaneously. Our students are encouraged to share information, compare ideas, interpret languages, develop critical thinking and investigate the alphabetic writing system in both languages. Finally, starting from Grade 1 (in Elementary School), half of the workload is offered in Portuguese and half in English.

More Benefits Of Bilingual Education

At Maple Bear, students begin learning English in Early Childhood Education using a student-centered, English immersion learning system, based on the Canadian educational pedagogy and best practices. The development of the English language brings numerous benefits to the young student, such as:

  • Better concentration, analytical skills and multitasking capabilities;

  • Greater sense of self-esteem and identity;

  • Ability to live abroad and learn other foreign languages;

  • Exposure to more than one culture, which leads to a global perspective;

  • Development of socio-emotional skills.

Life Excellence

Since its founding in 1867, Canada has been constituted as a nation based on respect for differences and recognition of two languages: French and English. But it was at the end of the 1960s that Canada, through the “Languages ??Act”, one of the pillars of the government of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and the work of the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, established bilingualism as crucial and determinant for the inclusion and respect for the rights of all citizens of the country. This movement marked the beginning of a long history of research and dedication to the development of a truly bilingual educational system, capable of developing citizens not only fluent in a second language, but possessing the culture of two native languages.
